Katie and Chris were married on the coldest day of the year, immediately after a snowfall in Asheville, North Carolina. The snowy, winter white landscape was a perfect complement to the couple's overall design theme, which was deliberately (and deliciously) festive, with touches of scarlet and matte gold woven into every detail.
The ceremony took place in Guastavino's exquisite Basilica of St. Lawrence. Adding to the effect of its elaborate stained glass windows, opulent statues and magnificent freestanding dome ceiling, the church's high altar was decorated with a seemingly endless cascade of red poinsettias.
An afternoon cocktail hour commenced in the lobby of Downtown Asheville's ultra-hip Renaissance Hotel before a chic reception at nearby event hotspot The Venue began.
Guests entering the front doors of The Venue were greeted immediately with a bevy of warm cocktail tables adorned with garnet mercury glass. Lanterns in various shades of gold and ivory festooned every surface from bar stations to lounge areas. Guest tables were dressed in ivory pin tuck linens and embellished with one of four alternating designs, varying in style from high to low, glass to matte gold, all with a seasonal spray of greenery and red accents.
The head table was an end-to-end candle scheme featuring floating candles at every height. Hand written signs from Paper and Pine were ribbon-tied to the backs of the wedding couple's seats while their cake - iced in a slick of sophisticated ivory with matte gold ribbon around each layer - attracted attention from guests all over the room.
The bride herself was like a character from a real-life Disney movie. With porcelain skin, a soft tumble of dark brown hair and a swipe of red lipstick, she was a snow queen in her element all day.
